Chapter 5 - The Confrontation at Uptown

Despite her mother's protests, Sofia insisted on returning to her Uptown condo under the protection of her father's security detail. She refused to hide like a victim while the people who hurt her walked free.

As the elevator doors opened directly into her penthouse foyer, she froze. The lock on the door had been drilled out. Sitting on her white leather sofa, holding a bottle of her expensive champagne, was Javier.

He looked up, his expression a toxic mix of arrogance and desperation. "Sofia, baby, thank God you're here. Your father is doing something crazy with our family's business. You need to call him off right now."

Sofia stood tall, her cane resting against her hip, the swelling on her face a vibrant, angry purple in the bright afternoon light. "Get out of my house, Javier."

Javier stood up, stepping toward her, his old charm morphing into a sneer. "Don't be stupid, Sofia. We're married now. What's yours is mine. My mother got a little carried away last night, sure, but that’s just how our family handles business. You sign the paper, you tell your old man to back off, and we can still have a great honeymoon in Paris."

"She won't be going to Paris, Javier," a voice boomed from the doorway.

Alexander walked in, accompanied by two federal marshals. Javier froze, his face turning pale as the marshals stepped past Sofia, their hands resting on their sidearms.

"Javier Robles," the lead marshal said. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit extortion, felony domestic assault, and witness intimidation. Hands behind your back."

As the handcuffs clicked around Javier's wrists, he screamed at Sofia, his charm entirely evaporating into cowardice. "You think you're safe? My mother will destroy you! She owns this city!"

Sofia walked up to him, looking directly into the eyes of the man she had loved only twenty-four hours ago. "Your mother doesn't even own her own house anymore, Javier. Enjoy the cellar."
