Chapter 6 - The Arrival of the True King

The heavy double doors at the end of the VIP corridor swung open with a loud thud. The state investigators and plainclothes officers instantly stepped aside, bowing their heads in deep respect as a lone figure walked down the hallway.
It was Caleb.
But it wasn't the Caleb Eleanor knew. He wasn't wearing his usual soft sweater or carrying a reassuring smile. He wore a crisp, dark charcoal suit that fit him like armor. His jaw was set, and his eyes were cold, calculated, and terrifyingly sharp. Behind him walked General Vance and three federal prosecutors.
Eleanor stepped out of the lounge, her anger flaring to mask her growing terror. "Caleb! Thank goodness you're here. This hospital has devolved into utter madness! Some rogue police officers are trying to interfere with your wife's medical care and framing me for—"
Caleb stopped five feet away from her. He didn't speak immediately. The silence he projected was so absolute, so suffocating, that even Eleanor’s words died in her throat.
"Where is my wife?" Caleb asked, his voice low, vibrating with a lethal energy.
"She is in surgery, Caleb," Eleanor said, trying to regain her dominant posture. "She had a terrible, clumsy fall. I did everything to save her, but these people are claiming—"
"Shut up, Eleanor."
The waiting room went dead silent. Eleanor gasped, her face turning crimson. "How dare you speak to your mother that way! I raised you! I built the world you live in!"
"You built nothing but a house of cards, and tonight, I am knocking it down," Caleb said, stepping closer until he loomed over her. "I know what you did. I know you cornered her. I know you grabbed her. And I know you let her bleed on the floor while you coordinated a cover-up with your pet doctor."
"You have no proof!" Richard Vance interjected, stepping forward defensively. "Mr. Sterling, as your family attorney, I advise you to—"
Caleb didn't even look at the lawyer. He simply raised a finger, and two state troopers instantly stepped forward, grabbing Richard Vance by his arms and forcing his hands behind his back.

"Richard Vance, you are under arrest for conspiracy to tamper with evidence and obstructing justice," General Vance announced, clicking handcuffs around the attorney's wrists.
Eleanor watched in absolute horror as her high-priced lawyer was dragged down the hallway. The world she thought she controlled was evaporating before her very eyes.
