Chapter 4 - The Outcast's Rage

"Security," Eleanor said calmly into the microphone. "Escort Vanessa, Brandon, and their children out of the venue. They are no longer welcome at my celebration."
Four large, suited security officers immediately stepped onto the stage, positioning themselves around Vanessa’s family.
"Don't touch me!" Vanessa screamed, shoving a security guard’s hand away as tears of rage streaked down her face. "This isn't over, Eleanor! You can't do this to me! I built our family's social standing in this city! You’re giving everything to a loser who married a nobody and lives in a dump!"
"Leave, Vanessa," Eleanor said, turning her back on her granddaughter and stepping away from the podium.
Brandon looked entirely broken, his posture slumped as he dragged his crying children toward the side exit. Mason stomped his feet in anger, while Brooke and Paige sobbed openly, terrified of losing their social status among their wealthy peers. As Vanessa was guided toward the exit doors, she turned back one last time, her eyes fixed on Sophie and me with a look of pure, unadulterated venom.
"You did this, Clara!" Vanessa screamed across the room, her voice echoing off the high ceilings as the heavy doors began to close. "You manipulated her! You and your worthless little brat! I will ruin you for this! I swear to God I will ruin you!"
The heavy oak doors slammed shut, cutting off her screams.
The banquet hall remained deathly quiet for several seconds. The wealthy guests looked at one another, uncertain of how to react.
Grandma Eleanor walked slowly down the steps of the stage, her posture straight and proud. She walked directly toward where Sophie and I were standing. The crowd parted instantly to let her pass.
When she reached us, Eleanor’s cold, terrifying expression softened completely. She reached out and took Sophie’s trembling hands in hers.
"Sophie, my darling," Eleanor said gently, her voice full of tenderness. "Look at me."
Sophie slowly raised her tear-stained face.
"Your dress," Eleanor said, touching the delicate hand-stitched collar of navy fabric, "is the finest piece of clothing in this entire room tonight. Do you know why?"
Sophie shook her head silently.
"Because it was made with love, patience, and true skill," Eleanor said warmly. "Unlike the clothes your aunt wears, which were bought with money she never earned, to cover a heart that holds no value."
Eleanor turned to face the entire room of guests, holding Sophie’s hand high.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" Eleanor announced clearly. "My great-granddaughter, Sophie, crafted this garment herself using a pattern passed down in our family. Tomorrow, I am launching a new youth textile grant through the Vance Foundation, and Sophie will serve as its honorary youth ambassador. Let us raise a glass to real talent!"
The room hesitated for a moment, and then Evelyn Vance—the corporate consultant who had witnessed Vanessa's cruelty—began to clap loudly. Within seconds, the entire ballroom burst into enthusiastic applause.
