Chapter 10 - The Harvest of Light

One year later. Summer 2027.

The backyard of the white house by the sea was transformed into a paradise of bright flowers and green grass.

Near the wooden fence facing the ocean stood a beautiful garden bed filled with giant, nine-foot-tall sunflowers, their bright golden heads facing the clear blue sky.

In the center of the lawn, a large wooden swing set had been built, complete with a treehouse that Ricardo had spent three weeks building with his own hands.

It was Bia’s eighth birthday.

The backyard was filled with children from the local town school, their joyful laughter floating across the water. A long picnic table was covered in bright yellow decorations, presents, and a massive chocolate cake topped with eight glowing candles.

Sarah Vance stood near the porch, taking photos with a vintage camera, while Detective Marcus Vance—now retired from the force and living nearby—was grilling hot dogs and burgers, laughing with the guests.

Ricardo stood near the edge of the garden, holding a glass of fresh lemonade, watching the celebration.

Bia ran across the lawn in a yellow dress, her pigtails flying, carrying a brand-new leather sketchbook her uncle had given her. She ran right up to Ricardo, her face glowing with pure, unadulterated happiness.

"Uncle Ricardo! Look what I drew!" she shouted proudly, opening the sketchbook.

On the page was a beautiful colored pencil drawing. It showed a big white house, giant sunflowers, a blue ocean, and three people holding hands under a big yellow sun: Bia, Ricardo, and a beautiful angel in a white dress floating above them in the clouds, wearing a warm smile.

Ricardo looked at the drawing, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace wash over his soul. The nightmare was truly over. The scars remained, but they were no longer painful wounds—they were reminders of a battle fought and won with love, truth, and unyielding courage.

"It’s the most beautiful drawing I've ever seen, Bia," Ricardo said softly, dropping to his knees and hugging her tight.

Bia wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing his cheek. "I love you, Uncle Ricardo."

"I love you too, my brave little girl," Ricardo whispered back. "More than all the stars in the sky."

As the kids gathered around the table to sing Happy Birthday, Bia stood on a chair, surrounded by people who cherished her. She blew out all eight candles in one strong, confident breath, her laughter echoing out over the ocean waves.

Above them, the evening sky turned a breathtaking shade of gold and pink.

The darkness had passed. The truth had won. And in the warm embrace of her family, little Bia was finally, truly home.
