Chapter 7 - The Trial of the Century

Six months later, the criminal trial began. The courtroom was packed. The prosecution presented the medical reports, the toxicological data, the recovered emails, and the financial ledgers.

Vanessa took the stand first, attempting to secure a plea deal by testifying against our parents. She wept, painting herself as a victim of our mother’s manipulation. "She forced me to do it! She said we would lose our house if we didn't get Lily's trust fund!"

But the prosecutor countered with a recording found on Vanessa's own phone—a voice memo where she joked with our mother about how easy it would be to send Lily away.

When it was my turn to testify, I walked up to the stand with absolute composure. I looked at my mother, who glared at me with pure venom. I detailed the neglect Lily had suffered for years, the subtle exclusion, and finally, the horror of finding my daughter unconscious in the trash.

"They thought they could erase my daughter because they considered her a mistake," I told the jury. "But her only mistake was being born into a family of wolves."

The jury deliberated for less than two hours. The verdict was unanimous: Guilty on all counts.
