Chapter 8 - The Showdown at the Courthouse

The emergency bail and indictment hearing for Julian Hale was held at the Charlotte Federal Courthouse the following morning.

Arthur Hale sat at the prosecution table, flanked by high-powered attorneys, a triumphant smile plastered across his face.

Julian sat across the room in an orange jumpsuit, looking at the floor, refusing to speak in his own defense to protect Eleanor and Lena from being called as witnesses.

The judge raised his gavel. "In light of the evidence presented by the board, this court finds sufficient cause to freeze all assets of Julian Hale and set bail at—"

"YOUR HONOR, STOP!"

The heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom burst open.

Lena Brooks strode down the center aisle, wearing the crimson gown she had sewn, holding a thick leather briefcase and a flash drive in her hands.

Behind her walked two senior investigators from the Department of Justice, flanked by Eleanor Hale in her wheelchair.

The courtroom descended into total chaos. Reporters scrambled, camera flashes strobed, and Arthur jumped to his feet, his face turning pale.

"Your Honor, this woman has no standing in this court!" Arthur screamed, his voice cracking with panic.

"I am Lena Hale, wife of Julian Hale," Lena declared, her voice ringing clear, confident, and resonant across the high ceiling of the courtroom. "And I hold the physical ledgers, encrypted audio files, and bank records proving that Arthur Hale embezzled ninety million dollars and orchestrated the murder of Richard Hale!"

Julian lifted his head snapped up, his dark eyes widening in absolute shock and terror as he saw Lena standing before the judge. "Lena... no! Get out of here! It's dangerous!"

"I am not going anywhere, Julian," Lena said, walking right up to the defense table and looking him straight in the eyes. "Because you lied about everything... except how much you cared."
