Chapter 9 - Justice Unraveled

The DOJ investigators plugged Lena's flash drive into the court monitor system.

Within minutes, encrypted audio recordings filled the silent courtroom. Arthur Hale’s voice echoed clearly through the speakers, discussing wire transfers, fake corporate audits, and payoffs to hitmen.

Arthur backed away from the table, his eyes wild with desperation. "It's a fake! She fabricated it!"

"The digital signatures are verified by federal banking servers, Mr. Hale," the judge said coldly, his face dark with fury. "Bailiffs, arrest Arthur Hale immediately on charges of treason, grand larceny, and first-degree murder."

Federal agents swarmed Arthur, forcing his arms behind his back and snapping handcuffs onto his wrists. Arthur screamed curses as he was dragged out of the courtroom past dozens of flashing cameras.

The judge slammed his gavel down. "All charges against Julian Hale are dismissed with prejudice. Release him immediately."

The courtroom erupted into cheers.

Julian’s handcuffs were unlocked. He stood up slowly, his hands trembling slightly as he looked at Lena standing just feet away from him.

"You came back," Julian whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

"You bought me an apartment building, Julian," Lena smiled through her tears, stepping closer. "I had to make sure my landlord didn't go to prison."

Julian let out a ragged, breathless laugh, pulling Lena into his arms and lifting her off her feet. He buried his face in her neck, holding her so tightly as if he would never let her go again.

"I’m sorry," Julian rasped against her ear. "I’m so sorry I didn't tell you the truth."

"No more lies," Lena whispered, pulling back to look into his eyes. "No more performance."

"No more performance," Julian agreed, kissing her deeply as the courtroom applauded around them.
