Chapter 9 - The Trial of the Decade

Khloe didn't freeze.
The months of living under constant threat, combined with the fierce maternal instinct protecting her unborn child, transformed her fear into raw, decisive action.
As Isabella swung the heavy brass weight downward, Khloe ducked beneath the blow, dodging to the side with surprising speed. Isabella’s momentum carried her forward, her foot slipping on the rain-slicked hardwood floor near the terrace door.
Khloe grabbed a heavy crystal lamp from the nightstand and smashed it directly against Isabella's shoulder.
Isabella screamed in rage and pain, dropping the brass weight as she stumbled backward onto the wet balcony tiles.
Before Isabella could recover, the bedroom doors slammed open. Marcus rushed into the room, followed by four armed Thorne security guards.
"Khloe!" Marcus screamed, seeing the shattered lamp and the intruder.
Marcus didn't hesitate. He tackled Isabella to the ground, pinning her hands behind her back with brutal, efficient force. The security team moved in instantly, securing her wrists with heavy-duty zip ties and slamming her down onto the marble floor.
"Get your hands off me!" Isabella shrieked, thrashing uselessly like a frantic animal. "Marcus! Look at me! It's me, Isabella!"
Marcus didn't even grant her a glance. He rushed over to Khloe, pulling her into his arms, checking her body frantically for injuries. "Are you hit?! Did she touch you?!"
"I'm okay, Marcus," Khloe gasped, holding onto his shoulders, breathing heavily. "I'm okay. She didn't touch the baby."
Three months later, the Federal District Courthouse in Manhattan was packed to maximum capacity for the verdict in The United States v. Isabella Rossi.
The trial had lasted three weeks, featuring overwhelming physical evidence, financial forensic records, and damning testimony from medical experts and security personnel.
The judge, a stern woman with thirty years on the bench, banged her gavel, restoring order to the packed courtroom.
"Will the defendant please stand?" the judge ordered.
Isabella, wearing a drab, orange prison jumpsuit, her hair unwashed and her face sunken, stood up beside her public defender. The vanity and arrogance that had once defined her were completely gone, replaced by a hollow, terrified shell.
Across the aisle sat Marcus and Khloe, holding hands, flanked by Dr. Arthur Vance, David Vance, and Agent Robert Vance—a united, unbreakable front.
"On Count One: Aggravated Attempted Murder in the First Degree," the court clerk read aloud, "we find the defendant, Isabella Rossi... GUILTY."
A collective gasp echoed through the courtroom, followed by the rapid clicking of reporters' keyboards.
"On Count Two: Attempted Feticide... GUILTY."
"On Count Three: Federal Bank Fraud and Corporate Espionage... GUILTY."
Isabella collapsed into her chair, sobbing hysterically into her hands as the final verdicts were read.
The judge looked down at Isabella with icy disdain. "Isabella Rossi, your actions demonstrated a profound, sadistic disregard for human life, driven by unbridled narcissism and greed. You attempted to destroy a mother and her unborn child, and when exposed, you attempted to use violence a second time to escape justice. This court sentences you to thirty-five years in federal state penitentiary without the possibility of parole."

The courtroom erupted into applause as officers stepped forward, placing heavy leg irons and handcuffs on Isabella, dragging her out through the side door to begin serving her sentence.
Victor Rossi, seated in the back row, put his head in his hands and wept silently, bankrupt, disgraced, and completely alone.
