Chapter 6 - The Strategy of Hearts

The war for control of Prescott Technologies ignited across Wall Street over the next forty-eight hours. Financial news networks were buzzing with rumors: Is Billionaire Damon Prescott Losing His Grip? Hostile Board Takeover Looming!
Julian Calder launched a vicious smear campaign in the media, leaking rumors that Damon had abandoned business negotiations in Denver to attend to a "secret mistress and illegitimate children," framing Damon’s decision as irresponsible and unstable.
Sitting in the glass boardroom of Prescott Technologies headquarters on December 29th, Damon watched a news anchor broadcast Calder’s lies on a muted television screen.
Nora Beck entered the room, looking exhausted. "Damon, Victoria Thorne has rallied forty-two percent of the shareholder votes to her side. Calder holds fifteen percent. Together, they have fifty-seven percent—a majority. If the vote happens tomorrow, they will oust you as CEO and terminate the pediatric foundation."
Damon paced the length of the room, his mind working like an elite chess grandmaster. "Victoria Thorne only cares about stock price and public image. She’s backing Calder because she thinks my personal life is a liability that will tank our stock."
"How do we change her mind?" Nora asked desperately. "We only have twenty-four hours!"
At that moment, the boardroom doors opened, and Cassandra walked in. She was dressed in an elegant, tailored navy dress, her dark hair styled smoothly, exuding an undeniable grace and quiet power. Behind her came Luke and Violet, hand-in-hand with a trusted hotel nanny who led them to a play area in the executive lobby.
Damon looked at Cassandra in surprise. "Cassie? What are you doing here?"
Cassandra walked up to the conference table and looked at Nora's financial charts. "Julian Calder is attacking Damon's character. He's trying to frame love, fatherhood, and philanthropy as weaknesses."
"That's standard Wall Street corporate warfare, Mrs. Hayes," Nora noted grimly.
"Then we change the narrative," Cassandra stated with calm authority. "Wall Street trades on perception. Calder is selling a story of an unstable CEO who lost his mind over a secret family. We need to tell the truth."
Damon watched her, intrigued. "What truth, Cassie?"
"The truth that you aren't an unstable lone wolf anymore, Damon," Cassandra said, looking directly into his eyes with absolute pride. "You are a man who built an empire, recognized that wealth without purpose is meaningless, and chose to use your success to save sick children and unite your family. That isn't a liability. That is the greatest leadership story in modern business."
Damon’s breath caught in his throat.
Cassandra turned to Nora. "Call a major press conference at the Seattle Convention Center for seven o'clock tonight. Invite every financial analyst, tech journalist, and shareholder. Damon won't hide behind legal filings. He will address the board and the world directly."
Nora looked at Damon, waiting for his command.

"Do it, Nora," Damon commanded. "Set up the press conference."
