Chapter 8 - The Triumph and the Proposal

The next morning, December 30th, the emergency board meeting of Prescott Technologies lasted less than fifteen minutes.
Victoria Thorne officially withdrew her motion to strip Damon of his executive authority. Furthermore, three major institutional investors voted to approve Damon’s fifty-million-dollar non-profit pediatric foundation, solidifying the acquisition of Merritt Systems under Prescott Technologies.
Julian Calder, disgraced and facing regulatory scrutiny for stock manipulation during the hostile takeover attempt, was forced to sell his shares at a loss and resign from his investment firm.
When Damon walked out of the corporate headquarters that afternoon, he was no longer just a feared tech mogul. The media hailed him as a visionary leader who redefined corporate ethics and embraced family values.
That evening, the snow fell gently over Seattle. Damon took Cassandra, Luke, and Violet to a private, candle-lit dinner at a historic restaurant overlooking the Puget Sound.
The kids were happily eating ice cream at a decorated side table supervised by the nanny, while Damon and Cassandra sat near a grand floor-to-ceiling window, watching the city lights reflect off the dark water.
Cassandra raised her wine glass, clinking it against Damon's. "To victories in the boardroom and victories of the heart."
"To you," Damon corrected softly, looking at her with deep affection. "None of this would have happened without you, Cassie. You saved me from becoming a monster."
"You were never a monster, Damon," Cassandra smiled gently. "Just a hurt boy who thought he had to conquer the world to be safe."
Damon took a deep breath. He stood up from his chair, walked around the table, and sank down onto one knee beside her seat.
Cassandra gasped, her hand flying to her chest.
Damon reached into his pocket and produced the mahogany box once more. He opened it, revealing the glittering diamond ring—the same ring from their humble Denver apartment, now polished to a brilliant shine.
"Cassandra Hayes," Damon spoke, his voice trembling with raw, unfiltered love. "Three years ago, I gave you this ring when I had nothing but dreams and ambition, and I lost it because I didn't know how to treasure what truly mattered. Tonight, I offer it to you again—not as a billionaire, but as a man who loves you with every fiber of his soul, as a father who wants to spend every remaining day of his life building a home with you."
Tears overflowed from Cassandra’s eyes, dripping down her glowing cheeks.
"Will you make me the happiest, most blessed man alive?" Damon asked, his green eyes pleading. "Will you marry me, Cassie?"
Cassandra didn't hesitate for a single second. She threw her arms around his neck, pulling him close.
"Yes! Yes, Damon, a thousand times yes!" she cried joyfully.

Damon slipped the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly, as if it had been waiting for this exact moment for three long years.
He lifted her into his arms, kissing her deeply as the snow swirled softly outside the window. Luke and Violet clapped their small hands, cheering for their parents, filling the night with pure, unconditional love.
