Chapter 9 - Building the Foundation

Six months later, in the warm summer of 2027, the sun shone brightly over a lush, green hillside in Denver, Colorado.

Damon and Cassandra stood side by side, wearing hardhats, holding golden shovels. Behind them stood a massive construction sign that read: THE CLARA PRESCOTT MEMORIAL PEDIATRIC HEALTHCARE CENTER & RESEARCH FOUNDATION.

Over three hundred community members, doctors, local families, and press gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the state-of-the-art facility—the first of twenty rural medical centers funded by Damon’s non-profit foundation.

Luke and Violet, now three years old, were running through the soft grass nearby, wearing matching miniature hardhats, laughing as they chased butterflies.

Nora Beck stepped up to the microphone on the stage. "Six months ago, Prescott Technologies embarked on a mission to ensure that no child in rural America dies from a lack of medical diagnostic tools. Today, through the leadership of Damon Prescott and Cassandra Hayes-Prescott, we are opening our first flagship hospital."

The crowd cheered enthusiastically.

Damon took the microphone, pulling Cassandra close to his side.

"This hospital isn't built on corporate profits," Damon announced proudly to the crowd. "It is built on love, memory, and second chances. Clara's memory lives on through every child who will be saved in this facility. And my wife, Cassandra, whose strength and compass guided me back to what truly matters, will serve as the Executive Director of the Foundation."

Cassandra smiled brilliantly, taking the microphone from him. "Thank you all for being here. Today, we prove that when love and resources come together, miracles happen."

After the ceremony, Damon and Cassandra walked through the open field toward their children. Luke ran up to Damon, holding up a bright red wildflower he had picked.

"For you, Daddy!" Luke squealed proudly.

Damon knelt down in the grass, taking the flower with deep gratitude, and pulled Luke into a warm, tight hug. "Thank you, buddy. It's the best gift I've ever received."

Violet ran up, throwing her tiny arms around Cassandra’s legs. "Mommy, can we go play on the swings?"

Cassandra bent down, picking Violet up, and looked at Damon with a look of absolute fulfillment. "Yes, sweetie. We have all the time in the world."
