Chapter 7 - The Public Declaration

At 7:00 PM on December 29th, the main hall of the Seattle Convention Center was packed with over three hundred journalists, camera crews, and major Wall Street investors. Satellite trucks lined the streets outside, broadcasting the event live across global financial networks.

Julian Calder and Victoria Thorne sat in the front row, arms crossed, smirking arrogance radiating from their posture. They believed Damon was walking straight into a trap, desperate to defend himself against public scrutiny.

The room fell dead silent as Damon Prescott stepped onto the stage. He wore a crisp dark suit, looking commanding, composed, and utterly devoid of fear.

Behind the stage curtain, Cassandra stood holding Luke and Violet, watching him on a monitor screen.

Damon stepped up to the podium, looking out over the sea of flashing cameras.

"Good evening," Damon began, his deep, authoritative voice echoing through the hall speakers. "Over the last seventy-two hours, there has been much speculation regarding my leadership, my financial decisions in Denver, and my personal life."

He paused, glancing toward the front row at Julian Calder.

"Julian Calder has told the media that I am emotionally compromised," Damon continued smoothly. "He told the board that spending fifty million dollars to provide free pediatric medical software to rural hospitals was an act of madness. He claims that my sudden focus on family makes me unfit to lead a fifty-billion-dollar enterprise."

The room buzzed with quiet murmurs. Cameras flashed rapidly.

"Let me tell you the truth," Damon declared, his voice ringing with fierce clarity. "Three years ago, I was a man obsessed with money and status. I believed that success was measured purely by market capitalization, profit margins, and dominance over competitors. In my relentless pursuit of that success, I walked away from the woman I loved. I was blind, arrogant, and foolish."

Victoria Thorne shifted uncomfortably in her seat, surprised by his brutal honesty.

"On Christmas Eve," Damon shared, his expression softening with profound emotion, "on a commercial flight to Denver, fate gave me a second chance. I met two two-year-old children—my son, Luke, and my daughter, Violet—whom I had never known existed. And I saw Cassandra, the woman whose heart I broke."

Damon looked away from the cameras and pointed toward the side of the stage.

"Cassie, bring them out," Damon said gently.

The crowd gasped as Cassandra walked onto the stage, holding Luke’s hand while carrying Violet. She looked stunning, regal, and completely unphased by the flashing lights. Luke waved shyly at the cameras, clutching his favorite red crayon.

Damon stepped away from the podium and walked over to them. He picked up Violet, held Cassandra’s hand tightly, and stood before the world as a father and a partner.

"This is my family," Damon announced into the microphone, his voice thick with pride. "Meeting them didn't make me a weaker CEO. It made me a human being. It reminded me why technology exists—not to enrich billionaires in boardrooms, but to serve human lives, to protect vulnerable children like Clara, like Luke, like Violet."

He turned his gaze directly toward Victoria Thorne and the board members sitting in the audience.

"Tomorrow morning, you will vote on whether to remove me as CEO," Damon stated powerfully. "If you believe that a leader should be a cold, heartless machine who puts profits above sick infants, then vote me out. I will happily walk away with my family and start a new foundation tomorrow. But if you believe that Prescott Technologies should stand for vision, ethics, integrity, and true strength—then stand with me."

The room erupted into absolute deafening applause. Investors stood up, cheering. Journalists were typing frantically on their laptops.

Victoria Thorne looked around at the standing ovation, seeing the overwhelming tide of public and financial support shifting instantly in Damon’s favor. She looked at Julian Calder, whose face was pale with complete defeat, and realized that Calder’s hostile takeover was dead in the water.

Damon leaned down and whispered into Cassandra’s ear over the thunderous applause, "How did I do?"

Cassandra looked at him, her eyes shining with tears of absolute love and pride. "You were magnificent, Damon."
