Chapter 7 - The Aftermath
Victoria was led away in handcuffs, sobbing and raving. This time, there would be no bail, no high-priced lawyers capable of saving her. Attempted burglary, assault, and breaking and entering were added to her charges.
The house fell quiet again. Richard rushed upstairs to check on the boys, finding them safe and sound under their beds, just as Emily had instructed. After calming them down, he walked down to the kitchen, where Emily was making a cup of chamomile tea to calm her shaking hands.
"Are you alright?" Richard asked, his voice thick with emotion.
"I'm fine, sir. Just adrenaline," Emily replied, trying to smile.
Richard walked up to her, ignoring all corporate decorum, and pulled her into a tight embrace. Emily froze in surprise, but slowly, she let her guard down and wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders.

"You saved them again," Richard whispered against her hair. "You saved all of us. I don't know what I would do without you, Emily."
"You don't have to find out, Richard," she said softly, using his first name for the very first time.
