Chapter 8 - Shifts in the Wind

Six months later, the court case was officially over. Victoria Lane was sentenced to seven years in a federal penitentiary. The Hawthorne name was cleared, and the company’s stocks soared to an all-time high.
But inside the mansion, the biggest change was the dynamic between the billionaire and the former housekeeper.
Emily was no longer just an employee; she was the heart of the home. She sat at the dinner table with Richard and the boys every night. They went on family trips to the coast, and for the first time, Richard was actively present, learning how to be a real father under Emily’s gentle guidance.
One Saturday afternoon, while the boys were playing soccer in the yard, Richard and Emily sat on the patio watching them.
"They look happy," Richard remarked, taking a sip of his coffee. "Really happy. I haven't seen them smile like this since... well, ever."
"They just needed to know they are a priority, Richard," Emily said, looking at him warmly. "And they needed to know their father loves them more than his work."
Richard turned to look at her. "And what about you, Emily? Do you feel like a priority here?"

"And what about me?" Richard asked, his voice dropping to a sincere, vulnerable register. "Because I've realized that the biggest mistake I ever made wasn't just believing Victoria—it was not realizing sooner that the woman of my dreams was already living under my roof."
