Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

At 10:00 AM the following morning, the top floor boardroom of Russo Logistics sat bathed in morning sunlight.

Arthur Sterling, a wealthy seventy-year-old man in a bespoke three-piece suit, sat at the head of the long mahogany table. Surrounding him were seven board members and eight heavily armed private contractors wearing tactical uniforms.

"With Daniel Russo absent and unfit to lead due to personal tragedy," Sterling announced smoothly to the board, "I move that the board vote to strip him of his executive power and transfer control of Russo Logistics to—"

BOOM!

The heavy double doors of the boardroom were blown off their hinges by a controlled explosive charge, shattering into splintered oak.

Smoke poured into the room. Before the security guards could raise their weapons, Daniel’s elite tactical team flooded the room, disarming the mercenaries with terrifying speed and precision.

Through the clearing smoke walked Daniel Russo.

He wore a tailored dark suit, his ice-blue eyes fixed entirely on Arthur Sterling. Mateo walked beside him, throwing a heavy leather folder onto the center of the boardroom table.

"D-Daniel..." Sterling stammered, his face turning paper white as he stumbled backward out of his leather chair. "This is... this is an illegal intrusion!"

"Sitting in my father's chair while conspiring with Victor Vance to murder my wife and child—that is an illegal intrusion, Arthur," Daniel said calmly, pulling a heavy silver pistol from his coat.

The remaining board members gasped, backing away against the glass walls.

"You have no proof!" Sterling cried out, trembling violently. "I am the chairman of this company!"

"The flash drive from Vance’s apartment has your bank transfers, Arthur," Mateo spoke up coldly. "Fifty million dollars from the Moretti family routed through your offshore accounts in Grand Cayman."

Sterling looked around frantically, but his hired guards were already on their knees, hands bound behind their backs.

"Daniel... please!" Sterling begged, falling to his knees as Daniel stepped closer. "We were like family! I built this empire with your father!"

"My father trusted you," Daniel said, his voice dropping into an icy whisper as he pointed the gun directly at Sterling’s forehead. "And you paid him back by putting a hit on his pregnant daughter-in-law."

"I took mercy on your brother, Rachel's brother, because he was just a fool," Daniel continued coldly. "But for a snake who eats his own family... there is no mercy."
