Chapter 10 - The Glass of Water

One year later.

The sun was setting over Elliott Bay, casting long, golden rays of light across the vast terrace of the Moretti estate.

The Sarah Vance Emergency Trauma and Care Center had been open for three months, already saving hundreds of lives in the city. Clara had completed her final nursing exams with highest honors, officially stepping into her role as Director of Emergency Medicine.

The estate was peaceful.

In the gardens below, Isabella and Sarah were sitting under a white pergola, laughing over tea while watching a pair of swans swim across the private pond.

On the grand terrace overlooking the lake, Clara sat in a plush armchair, wearing a comfortable silk robe. In her lap lay a bundle of soft blue blankets.

Inside the blankets slept a three-week-old baby boy—Leo Lorenzo Moretti—with a thick tuft of dark hair and his mother’s bright hazel eyes.

The glass doors of the library opened softly.

Lorenzo stepped out onto the terrace. He had discarded his jacket and tie, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his forearms. He walked slowly toward his wife and son, his face filled with a quiet, profound serenity that had completely replaced the harsh, cold lines of his past.

He knelt beside Clara’s chair, leaning in to gently press his lips against the baby's soft forehead.

"Is he sleeping?" Lorenzo asked softly.

"He just went down," Clara smiled, stroking the baby's cheek gently. "He has your appetite."

Lorenzo smiled—a warm, genuine smile that reached his eyes. He reached out, his hand resting over Clara’s, marveling at the small life they had created together.

"Mateo brought the quarterly reports from the hospital," Lorenzo noted softly. "Over four hundred patients were treated for free last month alone. You're changing the entire city, my love."

"We are changing it," Clara corrected gently, turning her head to look at him. "Together."

Lorenzo stood up, walking over to a small silver tray sitting on the outdoor table. He picked up a crystal pitcher and poured cold, clear sparkling water into a single glass.

He brought the glass back over to Clara, kneeling beside her once again.

He held the glass of water up toward her, his dark eyes shining with an absolute, everlasting devotion.

"Do you remember the first day?" Lorenzo whispered, a mischievous, beautiful glint in his dark eyes. "When you walked up to table seven at The Gilded Lily with a pitcher of water?"

Clara laughed softly, her eyes filled with warmth as she recalled the memory. "I remember a very arrogant, very terrifying billionaire who looked at me like I was an insect pinned under glass."

"And now," Lorenzo said, dropping down onto both knees beside her chair, bowing his head gently until his forehead rested against her knee, "that same man is on his knees before you, holding a glass of water, thanking God every single day that he was smart enough to lose his heart to the girl who refused his gold."

Clara set her hand tenderly on his head, running her fingers through his dark hair.

"Drink your water, Mr. Moretti," Clara whispered lovingly, leaning down to kiss his lips. "You're home."

Outside, the stars began to appear one by one over the dark, peaceful waters of Seattle—a golden, unbreakable empire built not on fear or money, but on the enduring power of a love that changed everything forever.
