Chapter 9 - The Dawn of an Empire

Six months later.

The Cathedral of St. James in downtown Seattle was packed to capacity with over five hundred guests.

The cathedral was decorated with thousands of white lilies and silver ribbons. Sunlight streamed through the grand stained-glass windows, illuminating the long aisle lined with plush velvet carpets.

The organ echoed through the soaring stone arches, playing a breathtaking bridal processional.

Standing at the grand altar was Lorenzo Moretti. He looked impossibly handsome in a bespoke black silk tuxedo, his hair combed back, his dark eyes fixed with absolute, unyielding intensity on the heavy double doors at the back of the cathedral.

Beside him stood Mateo as his best man, looking sharp and proud. In the front row sat Isabella Moretti, looking healthy and beautiful, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks. Beside her sat Sarah Vance, completely recovered from her successful kidney transplant surgery, holding Isabella’s hand tightly.

The double doors swung open.

A collective gasp swept through the cathedral.

Clara stood in the doorway, framed by the bright sunlight.

She wore a breathtaking, hand-sewn lace wedding gown with a long, sweeping train that drifted behind her like sea foam. A delicate diamond tiara rested in her styled hair, holding a sheer veil over her glowing face. In her hands, she held a simple bouquet of white lilies and fresh rosebuds.

She began her walk down the long aisle.

Lorenzo’s breath hitched in his chest. His knuckles turned white as he stood waiting for her, his eyes shining with pure, undeniable adoration.

When Clara reached the altar, she looked up at him through her veil. Lorenzo stepped forward, gently lifting the sheer fabric away from her face.

"You take my breath away," he whispered softly.

"You'd better keep breathing," Clara whispered back with a playful smile. "I'm off duty today."

Lorenzo let out a quiet laugh, his hand wrapping around hers.

The Archbishop of Seattle stepped forward, conducting the solemn, ancient vows of marriage.

When it came time for their personal vows, Lorenzo pulled a small folded slip of paper from his pocket. He looked into Clara’s eyes, his deep voice carrying clearly to every corner of the vast cathedral.

"Clara," Lorenzo spoke, his voice filled with absolute power and tender love. "I spent thirty-two years believing that strength meant standing alone in the dark. I believed that love was a weakness and that trust was a liability. Then you crashed into my world. You broke my mother's ribs to give her breath. You threw my money back in my face to teach me honor. You took a bullet for me, and you stopped a poison that would have destroyed my soul."

He squeezed her hand tightly.

"You are my heart, Clara. From this day forward, my strength is your strength. My empire is your empire. I swear to love you, honor you, and protect you through every storm this life brings, until my very last breath."

Clara wiped a joyful tear from her cheek, stepping closer to him.

"Lorenzo," she said softly, her voice ringing with absolute devotion. "I didn't save your mother because I wanted a reward. But in saving her, I found the greatest gift of my life—you. You showed me that beneath your armor lies a man of immense honor, protection, and boundless love. I give you my heart, my trust, and my life, forever."

"By the authority vested in me," the Archbishop announced, smiling broadly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Lorenzo didn't hesitate. He pulled Clara into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a passionate, sweeping kiss that sealed their lives together forever.

The entire cathedral erupted into thunderous, joyous applause.
