Chapter 5 - Infiltration at Pier 42

The rain beat a relentless rhythm against the rusted corrugated steel of Pier 42’s abandoned grain silo. Fog rolled off the dark waters of the bay, cloaking the industrial wasteland in thick white shadows.

At 11:15 PM, an unmarked white medical van pulled up to the security checkpoint near the south gate. Two heavily armed Syndicate guards stepped out of the guard shack, flashlight beams cutting through the gloom.

"Stop the vehicle! ID and clearance!" one guard shouted, tapping the window with the barrel of his automatic rifle.

The window rolled down. Naomi sat in the passenger seat, wearing a pair of dark blue medical scrubs and a white lab coat bearing the forged credentials of a private agency. Beside her, a undercover Rossi operative named Victor posed as the ambulance driver.

"Emergency medical dispatch," Naomi said smoothly, her voice cool and authoritative. She held up a clipboard containing forged papers bearing Julian Vance’s stolen digital signature. "Dr. Vance requested an emergency sedation team. Two of the subjects in Pen B are suffering from severe hyperventilation and agitation. If they mess up their appearance before the auction starts, it’s your head on the chopping block."

The guard shone his flashlight directly into Naomi’s face. She didn't blink, holding his aggressive stare with the icy calm she usually reserved for abusive, drunk patients in the ER.

The guard grunted, checking the clipboard against his tablet. The forged codes cleared instantly, thanks to Lorenzo’s cyber specialists.

"Go through," the guard grumbled, waving them forward. "Park near the loading dock. Don't wander around. The boss is in a terrible mood tonight—some idiot lost a ledger."

"Understood," Naomi said calmly as the van rolled through the rusted gates.

Inside the back of the van, hidden beneath a false floor designed for medical equipment, Lorenzo Rossi checked the tactical display on his wrist monitor. He wore sleek black body armor beneath a dark tactical coat, a suppressed sidearm strapped to his chest. Through a microscopic earbud, he could hear every breath Naomi took.

"You're inside, Naomi," Lorenzo’s voice echoed in her ear, soft and steady as a heartbeat. "Good work. Remember, your only job is to locate the holding pens and plant the signal beacon. Once the beacon is active, my team moves in. Do not engage anyone unless absolutely necessary."

"Copy that, Don Rossi," Naomi whispered, stepping out of the van into the cavernous, damp interior of the silo.

The air inside smelled of rust, mold, and fear. Distant echoes of loud techno music and harsh laughter carried down from the upper levels, where high-paying buyers were being entertained with expensive champagne while waiting for the auction to begin.

Naomi carried a heavy aluminum medical kit, walking briskly past armed thugs who paid little attention to a nurse. She navigated the dimly lit corridors, following the blueprints she had memorized at the manor.

She turned down a basement corridor guarded by two men sitting on folding chairs, playing cards. Beyond them stood a heavy steel door reinforced with an electronic keypad.

"Hey! Scrub!" one guard called out, tossing his cards down. "Where do you think you're going?"

"Dr. Vance ordered sedatives for the girls in Pen B," Naomi said, marching straight up to them with absolute confidence. "Open the door."

"Dr. Vance didn't tell us nothing about—"

Before the guard could finish his sentence, Naomi reached into her kit, pulled out a high-concentration aerosol knockout spray designed for fast-acting medical sedation, and sprayed it directly into both men's faces.

The guards gasped, clutched their throats, and collapsed to the concrete floor within four seconds, snoring heavily.

Naomi didn't waste a beat. She searched the first guard’s belt, found the keycard, and swiped it through the reader. The heavy door clicked and swung open.

What she saw inside made her heart break into a thousand pieces.
