Chapter 3 - The Counter-Attack

Elena Vance was not a woman to go down quietly. Within forty-eight hours of her expulsion from the estate, her high-priced divorce lawyer launched a ferocious counter-offensive, filing emergency petitions for temporary spousal support, freezing joint corporate assets, and claiming that Arthur had subjected her to psychological abuse while conspiring with the nanny to fabricate financial crimes.

The local tabloids had a field day. Headlines screamed “VANCE DYNASTY IMPLODES: BILLIONAIRE HUSBAND KICKS WIFE OUT FOR NANNY!”

Arthur sat in his downtown executive office, reading the morning paper with a grim expression. The public smear campaign was designed to pressure him into a quiet, lucrative settlement out of court.

The heavy oak door of his office swung open without a knock. Elena walked in, flanked by two aggressive private attorneys, wearing a tailored white Chanel suit that looked like armor.

“You’re destroying our family name over a glorified babysitter, Arthur,” Elena hissed, stepping up to his desk and slamming her palm against the wood. “Drop the embezzlement charges, hand over thirty percent of the primary estate holdings, or I will drag your son’s name through every tabloid gutter in this country.”

Arthur slowly stood up. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't yell. He simply looked at her with a profound, chilling pity that unnerved her instantly.

“You threatened my son's future, Elena,” Arthur said softly, his voice cutting through the office air like a razor. “There is no bottom to the abyss I will plunge you into. Get out of my office before I have security throw you out the window.”
