As Elena stormed out of the skyscraper, slamming the elevator doors behind her, Maria was waiting in the lobby café across the street, quietly observing the fallout. Maria wasn't just a nanny; before stepping away from the corporate world to raise her younger siblings after her parents passed away, she had worked as an elite legal researcher.
Her phone buzzed. It was an encrypted message from an old contact at the state department of commerce.
“Found the missing link, Maria. The front company Elena used? It has a silent partner. Someone tied directly to her family’s bankrupt real estate holdings.”
