Chapter 7 - Rebuilding the Foundation
By Monday morning, the financial and legal fallout had swept through Boston like a Category 5 hurricane.
The Boston Herald ran a front-page headline that shocked the New England business community: EMPIRE FALLS: VINCENT MORETTI ARRESTED ON FEDERAL FRAUD CHARGES; CLAIRE BENNETT RECLAIMS MAJORITY CONTROL.
The merger was restructured within forty-eight hours, stripping the Moretti name from the corporate charter and officially rebranding the entire enterprise as Bennett-Moretti Global Logistics—with Bennett placed proudly first.
Elena Ward was terminated without severance by noon on Friday, her security badges revoked and her name quietly erased from every active corporate directory.
Inside the historic South Boston warehouse, the underground command center had been quieted down, but the executive offices on the top floor of the newly rebranded headquarters were a hive of focused, productive energy.
Claire sat behind her grandfather’s old mahogany desk, reviewing the updated operational reports. The sun streamed through the large glass windows, warming the room and catching the soft waves of her dark hair.
The office door opened quietly.
Marcus Vance walked in, carrying a fresh cup of peppermint tea and a thick portfolio of legal settlements.
"The liquidators are finishing up the asset seizure of Vincent’s personal accounts," Marcus said, setting the tea down gently on the desk. "Between the federal fines and civil restitution suits, he won't have two nickels to rub together by the time his trial concludes next spring. His defense counsel hasn't even bothered filing a bail motion."
"Let the courts handle him," Claire said softly, taking a sip of the peppermint tea. The warmth grounded her. "How are the regional shipping hubs responding to the restructuring?"

"They're thrilled," Marcus smiled warmly. "The old guard remembers your grandfather. They’re glad the company is back under Bennett leadership. In fact, the regional managers in New York and London are already pushing to expand our maritime lanes by twenty percent."
"Good," Claire said, her hand resting naturally against her stomach. "Let's move forward. We have a new generation of growth to secure."
