Chapter 1 - The Bloodline of Bellini

The fluorescent lights of the emergency room at Mercy Lakes Medical Center hummed with a sterile, unforgiving buzz. Natalie lay on the stainless-steel bed, her eyes fixed on the ceiling as nurses rushed around her, connecting monitors, setting IV lines, and prepping her for premature delivery. Every contraction felt like a hot blade slicing through her lower abdomen, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the icy clarity settling into her soul.

Outside the trauma bay, Frank stood with the photograph crushed in his fist. His phone buzzed again—Michael calling back. Frank didn't answer. He slipped the phone into his coat pocket, smoothed out the photograph, and stared at the handwritten note on the back.

WE FOUND LUCIA BELLINI.

Twenty-five years ago, the Bellini syndicate didn't just control Chicago; they owned every dock, freight line, and judge from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi. Then overnight, the Bellini empire vanished in a sea of blood and arson. The head of the family, Matteo Bellini, was murdered alongside his inner circle in a coordinated betrayal. His five-year-old daughter, Lucia, disappeared into the night, swallowed whole by the state foster care system under an emergency identity protection order.

Frank reached into his collar and pulled out an old, tarnished silver medallion he had kept hidden for three decades. The emblem stamped on it was identical to the silver falcon bracelet wrapped around Natalie’s wrist—the only piece of jewelry she had inherited from her late mother, who had raised her in a small, quiet town in southern Illinois without ever speaking of her past.

Natalie wasn't just a nurse who had helped Michael build his logistics company from scratch. She wasn't just the loyal wife he had discarded for Vanessa Romano. She was the sole surviving heir to the Bellini syndicate—and the true owner of the land, port access rights, and hidden offshore trusts upon which DeLuca Atlantic Logistics was built.

Inside the delivery room, Dr. Maya Ellis stepped between Natalie’s legs, her expression grave. "Natalie, listen to me. Your blood pressure is 185 over 110. The baby is in fetal distress. We cannot wait for seven months to turn into eight. We are taking him out right now via emergency C-section."

Natalie gripped the side of the hospital bed, tears blurring her vision, but her voice didn't shake. "Save my son, Maya. Just save my son."

The anesthesia took hold quickly, plunging Natalie into a cold, weightless dark.

While the surgeons worked, Frank stepped out into the hospital parking garage, where a sleek, unlit black Sedan pulled up beside the Mercedes. A tall, silver-haired man in a bespoke gray coat stepped out, holding a thick leather folder. His name was Dominick Vance, the legendary corporate attorney who had represented the original Bellini estate before going into dark retirement.

"Frank," Dominick said, his deep voice carrying the authority of a bygone era. "Is she inside?"

"She's in surgery, Dominick," Frank said, his voice trembling. "Michael left her. He let his security team chase her through the city while she was in labor. He called her a cheap toy in front of three hundred people."

Dominick’s eyes narrowed into slitted ice. He opened the leather folder, revealing original land deeds from 1994, bearer bonds, and a sealed trust agreement bearing the seal of the Federal District Court.

"Michael DeLuca thinks he owns DeLuca Atlantic Logistics," Dominick said softly. "He forgot that forty percent of his primary shipping terminal rests on land leased from the Bellini Trust—a lease that expires the moment Lucia Bellini reaches her thirtieth birthday or gives birth to a male heir."

Dominick looked up at the hospital tower. "Natalie turns thirty next month. And her son is being born tonight. Michael DeLuca didn't just throw away his wife, Frank. He just handed us the rope to hang him."
