Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

At 8:00 AM, the board of directors of DeLuca Atlantic Logistics gathered on the fifty-fifth floor of the DeLuca Tower. The room was surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass offering a panoramic view of Lake Michigan and the massive shipping terminal below.

Michael sat at the head of the long oak table, dressed in a fresh navy suit, trying to hide the exhaustion under his eyes. Vanessa sat to his right, wearing a cream blazer, acting as the newly appointed Vice President of Communications.

"Let's move directly to Item 3," Michael declared, clapping his hands together. "The final authorization for the thirty-million-dollar expansion of Terminal 4. The city council approved the zoning permits yesterday. Once we sign these construction contracts, our valuation reaches one hundred million."

The board members murmured in approval.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom swung open.

Two federal marshals stepped inside, followed by Dominick Vance. Behind them, pushed in a wheelchair by Frank, was Natalie. She wore an elegant black wool coat, her dark hair pulled back into a sleek tail, her face pale but her eyes burning with an intense, quiet flame.

The room went dead silent.

Michael stood up, his face flushing with anger. "Natalie? What is the meaning of this? This is a private executive session. Security!"

"Security won't be entering this floor, Mr. DeLuca," the lead Federal Marshal announced, pulling a document from his coat. "We are executing a federal freeze order on all real estate development contracts associated with Terminal 4."

Vanessa gasped. "On what authority?"

Dominick Vance stepped forward, tossing a stack of certified property deeds onto the center of the boardroom table.

"On the authority of the Bellini Revocable Land Trust," Dominick said, his voice ringing through the room like a church bell. "Thirty years ago, the land beneath Terminal 4 was leased to the City of Chicago by Matteo Bellini under a fifty-year master agreement. That agreement contained a strict forfeiture clause: if the operating lessee engages in bad faith, fraud, or intentional harm against the primary beneficiary of the Bellini estate, the master lease terminates instantly."

Michael laughed nervously, looking around at the board members, who were already picking up the documents. "This is absurd! The Bellini family died in 1999! There is no heir!"

Dominick turned to Natalie.

Natalie unlocked the silver falcon bracelet from her wrist and set it squarely in front of Michael on the polished oak surface.

"My mother was Elena Bellini," Natalie said, her voice smooth, cutting through the silence like a diamond on glass. "And I am Lucia Bellini. The land you built Terminal 4 on belongs to me, Michael. The port access rights you sold to investors belong to me. And as of 8:00 AM this morning, I have officially revoked your operating lease."

Michael stared at the silver bracelet, then at Natalie. The color drained from his skin until he looked like a ghost standing in his own boardroom.

May you like

"You..." Michael stammered, his hands shaking as he gripped the table. "You knew?"

"I didn't know until last night," Natalie said softly, leaning forward. "I thought I was just the nurse who gave you ten years of her life. I thought I was just the woman you called a cheap toy in front of three hundred people. But it turns out, Michael... I own you."
