Chapter 10 - The Promise Kept

That evening, as the golden sun dipped below the horizon, painting the Ohio sky in brilliant shades of amber, rose, and purple, Leah took Leo for a walk along the quiet riverbank near their home.
The water bubbled gently over smooth river stones.
Leah looked down at the flowing river—the same river she had seen in her terrifying nightmare two years ago.
In her dream, the water had been dark, cold, and monstrous, pulling her baby away into the abyss while those she trusted watched in silence.
But today, the water was clear, warm, and bright.
Leo giggled, reaching his tiny hands toward the sparkling water while holding Leah’s hand tightly.
Leah knelt down in the soft grass, holding her son against her heart.

"You're safe now, my sweet boy," Leah whispered into his soft curls, watching the stars begin to twinkle in the clear evening sky. "No more shadows. No more lies. Mommy’s right here, and I will always protect you."
Leo turned his head, smiled brightly, and rested his cheek against her shoulder, safe and loved under the endless, peaceful sky.
