Chapter 9 - The Rebirth

One year later.

The morning sun shone brightly over a charming Victorian house in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

The front yard featured a lush green lawn, vibrant flower beds, and a newly constructed wooden playground. A bright brass plaque beside the front door read: The Mae Rowland Center for Maternal Protection.

With the settlement funds recovered from the Carver estate and state compensation grants, Leah had founded a non-profit sanctuary and advocacy organization dedicated to protecting young mothers from medical abuse, legal manipulation, and domestic coercion.

Simone served as the organization's chief investigative coordinator, while Mae Rowland worked as the director of medical care.

Leah sat on the front porch rocking chair—the same rocking chair she had sat in on that terrifying 3:00 AM morning two years ago.

Beside her, little Leo—now a healthy, bright, fourteen-month-old toddler with laughing brown eyes—was toddling across the porch floor, chasing a fluffy golden retriever puppy.

"He's getting faster every day," Mae smiled, walking out onto the porch holding two mugs of hot tea, handing one to Leah.

"He is," Leah smiled, pulling her son onto her lap and kissing his soft cheek.
