Chapter 7 - The Downfall of Briar Glen
The courthouse steps erupted into absolute chaos.
Flashbulbs popped like fireworks as federal marshals stepped forward, pulling heavy steel handcuffs from their belts.
At that exact moment, two miles away, federal agents breached the executive offices of Briar Glen Maternity Pavilion, seizing Dr. Celia Rusk’s computers, hard drives, and medical ledgers. Dr. Rusk was led out of the hospital in handcuffs in front of dozens of stunned nurses and patients.
On the courthouse steps, Doreen tried to back away, her voice rising in frantic panic. "This is a outrage! I am a major donor to the city! My lawyers will have you fired!"
"Your lawyers are currently being served with federal search warrants for your offshore accounts, Mrs. Carver," Agent Miller replied coldly, clicking the cuffs around Doreen's manicured wrists.
Nathan collapsed onto his knees on the cold marble steps, weeping hysterically. "Leah! Please! I was forced into this! My mother threatened to bankrupt me! I love you! I love Leo!"
Leah walked up to him slowly, looking down at the man she had once trusted with her life.

"You sat by while your mother planned to lock me in a psych ward forever, Nathan," Leah said softly, her voice steady and devoid of pity. "You sold your own son for real estate money. You never loved us. You only loved yourself."
She turned her back on him as the officers dragged Nathan and Doreen into the waiting federal sedans.
