Chapter 6 - The Promise on the Cliff

Six months later, the sunset over Carmel painted the sky in brilliant shades of rose, gold, and deep purple.

The cliffside garden behind the Moretti seaside estate was quiet, save for the rhythmic crash of the waves against the rocks far below.

Grace stood near the stone wall, wearing a simple cream sweater, watching the dusk settle over the water. Her hands were completely healed now, leaving only faint, soft white lines along her skin—reminders of a fire that had burned away an old life to make room for something real.

Footsteps sounded on the grass.

Dante stepped up beside her, wrapping a warm wool blanket around her shoulders and sliding his arms around her waist from behind. He rested his chin gently on her shoulder, his chest warm against her back.

"Cold?" he asked softly.

"No," she smiled, leaning back against his strong frame. "It's perfect."

Over the past nine months, Dante had completely transformed his life. He had stepped back from the dark, questionable side ventures of his family's past business, liquidating those assets into a permanent endowment for fire survivors and domestic workers' rights organizations managed directly by Grace.

He had learned to cook, he had learned to listen, and above all, he had learned how to love a woman whose strength had saved his family.

Dante turned Grace gently in his arms so she was facing him.

The fading light touched his handsome, refined features, illuminating the deep, unwavering devotion in his eyes.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, simple wooden box—carved by his own hands from a piece of driftwood he had found on the beach below.

He opened it.

Inside rested a simple, stunning platinum ring set with a clear, brilliant sapphire—the color of the ocean at dawn.

Dante looked into Grace’s eyes, his voice low and rich with emotion.

"Grace," he said, holding her hands in his. "A year ago, I was a man who lived in a house full of chandeliers and thought I owned the world. I was blind, arrogant, and foolish. And then you walked into my life, and you showed me what honor, courage, and true beauty really look like."

He took a slow, deep breath, his dark eyes shimmering with unshed tears.

"I don't offer you an empire, Grace," Dante whispered. "I offered you an empire once, and it burned to ash because it was built on lies. I offer you an honest life. I offer you my heart, my complete devotion, and a promise that I will stand beside you, honor you, and love you for as long as I live."

Grace looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had humbled himself, shed his pride, and remade his entire world just to prove he was worthy of her love.

She reached up, her fingers gently framing his strong jawline, feeling the quiet tremor of emotion in his breathing.

"Dante," she whispered softly, a radiant, breathtaking smile lighting up her face. "You don't have to prove anything anymore. You built a home for us."

Dante let out a ragged, joyous breath. He slipped the sapphire ring onto her finger, pulled her into his arms, and brought his lips down to hers in a deep, magnificent kiss that tasted of ocean air, warm promise, and complete freedom.

High above the Pacific Ocean, under a sky filled with a million glittering stars, Dante Moretti held the woman who had saved his mother, healed his soul, and taught him that the greatest power on earth was the courage to love without fear.
