Chapter 9 - The Garden of Vows

Six months later.

The summer sun beamed down on the rolling green hills of the Napa Valley estate. The sky was an unbroken canopy of vibrant blue, and the scent of blooming jasmine, lavender, and rich earth hung sweet in the air.

The grand stone courtyard had been transformed into a breathtaking sanctuary. White roses and pale blue hydrangeas climbed up ancient stone arches. Two hundred guests—ranging from local estate staff, gardeners, and hospital workers to international diplomats and reformed business partners—sat along the wooden pews.

At the front of the altar stood Dante Moretti.

He wore a custom midnight-blue double-breasted tuxedo that highlighted his broad chest and commanding height. He looked majestic, a man entirely at peace with himself, his dark eyes fixed with absolute intensity on the wooden garden gates at the end of the aisle.

Beside him stood Marco, wearing a sharp suit, looking uncharacteristically emotional as he wiped a tear from his eye.

Sitting in the front row was Elena Moretti, looking healthy and radiant in a lilac silk gown, holding hands with Lucy Parker, the young maid Grace had protected months ago, who was now attending university on a Moretti foundation scholarship.

The soft melody of a cello and harp began to weave through the summer air.

The heavy wooden gates opened.

A collective intake of breath echoed through the courtyard.

Grace walked down the aisle alone.

She didn't need anyone to give her away. She walked with her head held high, a vision of pure, magnificent beauty. She wore a custom-designed ivory silk gown with delicate lace sleeves that hugged her broad, gorgeous curves before cascading into a dramatic, sweeping train. Her dark hair was styled in a classic crown of soft curls, pinned with white orchids, and her face glowed with a joy so radiant it seemed to illuminate the entire garden.

Dante watched her approach, his breathing coming fast and uneven. When she reached the altar and stepped up beside him, he reached out, taking both of her hands in his, his fingers trembling slightly.

"You are a miracle," Dante whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

Grace smiled, her eyes shining with tears of pure happiness. "And you're not late. That's a good start."

The officiant—a warm, elderly judge from San Francisco who had helped Grace set up the foundation—began the ceremony.

When it came time for the personal vows, Dante turned to Grace. He pulled no paper from his pocket; he simply held her hands, looking directly into her eyes.

"Grace," Dante said, his deep voice carrying clearly over the silent garden. "For twenty years, I thought strength was built by walls, armor, and fear. I spent my life taking things from the world. Then you walked into my home. You showed me that real power is the courage to be kind, to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and to love without fear."

He squeezed her hands gently.

"I give you my life, my honor, and my heart," Dante promised, tears glistening in his dark eyes. "I promise to build a world where you never have to defend your dignity again. I promise to cherish you, honor you, and love you through every storm and every sunrise, for as long as I live."

Grace looked up at him, her chest rising and falling as a tear spilled over her lashes.

"Dante," Grace spoke, her voice clear, rich, and full of unshakeable love. "I spent thirty-three years believing I had to make myself smaller just to fit into rooms that weren't built for me. You didn't just invite me into your world—you rebuilt your world so we could stand together as equals."

She reached up, gently brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead.

"You gave up an empire of shadow to build a life of light with me," Grace said softly. "I give you my trust, my passion, and my entire heart. You are my husband, my protector, and my equal. Forever."

"By the power vested in me," the judge declared, a broad smile on her face, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dante, you may kiss your bride."

Dante didn't hesitate for a single second.

He stepped forward, pulled Grace into his arms, and lifted her slightly off her feet as he brought his lips down to hers in a powerful, breathtaking kiss that sealed their destinies together forever.

The entire courtyard erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and a shower of white rose petals floating down through the golden California sunshine.
