Chapter 8 - The Wedding at Cape Elizabeth

Six months later.

The wedding of Adrien Romano and Grace Williams took place on the oceanfront cliffs of Cape Elizabeth, Maine—a private, breathtaking estate overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

The ceremony was small, intimate, and free of press or corporate cameras. Only fifty people were invited—the loyal staff of the Greystone estate, Arthur Pendelton, Grace’s extended family from Ohio, and close personal friends who had stood by Adrien during his darkest hours.

The air was filled with the scent of wild roses and ocean salt.

When the music began, four-year-old Zoe walked down the white carpet aisle as the flower girl, wearing a miniature white lace dress, carrying a basket of pink rose petals, and clutching Bear in her left hand. She proudly tossed petals left and right, beaming at the guests.

Behind her came Grace, leaning on the arm of her uncle. She was stunning—a vision in an ivory silk off-the-shoulder gown, her veil catching the ocean breeze, holding a bouquet of white peonies.

At the altar stood Adrien, wearing a tailored black tuxedo. As he watched Grace walk toward him, the former ruthless mobster wiped a tear from his eye without an ounce of shame.

When Grace reached the altar, Adrien took her hands in his.

The minister spoke warm words about love, healing, and second chances. When the time came for vows, Adrien looked directly into Grace’s eyes.

"Grace," Adrien said, his voice clear and resonant over the sound of the ocean waves. "I spent fifteen years building walls around my heart so no one could hurt me again. You walked through those walls with gentleness, dignity, and unconditional love. I promise to cherish you, honor you, and shield you from every storm for as long as I live."

Grace smiled through her tears, her voice steady and full of deep emotion. "Adrien, you took two broken, terrified people and gave us a fortress of safety and love. You showed me that grief doesn't have to be the end of the story—it can be the soil where new happiness grows. I give you my heart, my life, and my love forever."

"By the power vested in me," the minister announced with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Adrien pulled Grace gently into his arms, kissing her with a deep, passionate tenderness that brought roaring applause from the guests.

Zoe jumped up and down beside them, clapping her tiny hands. "Yay! Mama and Mr. Adrien are married!"

Adrien leaned down, picking up Zoe in his left arm and wrapping his right arm tightly around Grace, holding his entire world against his chest as the Atlantic sun shone brilliantly overhead.
