Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Peace

That evening, the sun set over Lake Como, casting a brilliant golden-pink glow over the waters of the Moretti private villa.

The gardens were quiet, save for the gentle lapping of the lake waves and the faint distant laughter of the twins playing inside with their nanny.

Damian and Clare walked hand in hand down the stone steps leading to the private wooden dock.

Clare wore a long, flowing midnight-blue evening gown that caught the cool evening breeze. On her neck hung a small, polished silver pendant—crafted from the original silver metal of the cracked fountain pen she had carried four years ago.

They stood at the end of the dock, watching the stars begin to flicker awake in the clear Italian sky.

Damian pulled Clare against his side, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, shielding her from the light breeze.

"Four years ago," Damian murmured, looking out at the calm water, "I thought my life was defined by the shadows. I thought power was about how many men feared my name."

Clare looked up at him, her hand resting over his heart, feeling its strong, steady rhythm.

"And now?" she asked softly.

Damian smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that warmed his entire face—and kissed the top of her head.

"Now I know that true power is having something worth protecting," Damian said, locking his fingers with hers. "And true peace is coming home to you."

Clare rested her head against his chest, closing her eyes as the warm night wrapped around them, knowing that the dark cellar, the rusty chains, and the fear were forever lost in the past—replaced by an unshakeable, eternal kingdom built on love, loyalty, and sovereign peace.
