Chapter 9 - The New Era

Two years later.
The summer afternoon in New York was warm and bright over the newly renovated Moretti Global Headquarters in midtown Manhattan.
The company had transitioned entirely out of illicit shipping operations, becoming the East Coast’s largest legal logistics and green-energy maritime fleet, employing thousands of people and funding dozens of children’s hospitals across the nation.
Inside the spacious executive suite on the top floor, two toddler-sized desks were set up near the large glass window.
Two two-year-old children—Leo Damian Moretti and Sofia Clare Moretti—were giggling as they painted pictures with bright blue water-based ink on large sheets of paper.
Standing near the main desk was Clare, looking stunning in a tailored lavender suit, holding a tablet as she reviewed the quarterly shipping reports.
Damian walked into the office, carrying two small stuffed bears for the twins. He set the toys on their tiny desks, kissing both children on their heads, before walking over to Clare and wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.
"You're working too hard, Mrs. Moretti," Damian teased softly, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"Someone has to keep this empire running smoothly, Mr. Moretti," Clare replied with a playful smirk, leaning back into his warm chest. "The Zurich merger is complete, and the foundation has raised fifty million for the new pediatric wing."
Damian took the tablet from her hand, setting it on the desk, and turned her around in his arms to look into her beautiful brown eyes.

"You have given me everything, Clare," Damian said quietly, his voice filled with an everlasting, deep devotion. "A clean family name, a peaceful life, and two beautiful children."
"We gave it to each other, Damian," Clare whispered, reaching up to stroke his cheek.
