Chapter 8 - The Sanctuary in Amalfi

Six months later.

The warm summer breeze brushed across the private cliffside terrace of the Moretti estate in Amalfi, Italy.

The Mediterranean Sea stretched out below like a vast blanket of sapphire silk under a cloudless sky. White hydrangeas and bougainvillea draped over the stone walls, filling the air with a sweet, delicate fragrance.

On the terrace, a long wooden dining table was set with fresh seafood, sparkling wine, and handmade Italian pasta.

Clare sat in a comfortable wicker chair, wearing a soft white sundress, her hand resting gently on her stomach—where a tiny, barely noticeable bump was beginning to show.

Damian walked out onto the terrace wearing a linen shirt and trousers, holding a tray of fresh lemonade. He set the tray down, walked behind Clare, and leaned down to kiss her cheek before resting his hands gently over her stomach.

"How are you feeling, my love?" Damian whispered against her ear.

"Perfect," Clare smiled, turning her head to kiss his lips. "The doctor said the babies are healthy and growing fast."

"Babies?" Damian froze, his dark eyes widening in rare shock. "Plural?"

Clare laughed, a bright, rich sound that echoed across the cliffside. "Dr. Ellis called twenty minutes ago with the updated ultrasound results. Twins, Damian. A boy and a girl."

Damian stared at her for three seconds, his usual stoic composure completely melting into pure, unadulterated joy. He fell to his knees beside her chair, burying his face against her neck, holding her tightly as tears of profound gratitude touched his eyes.

"Two..." Damian whispered, kissing her belly through the thin white silk of her dress. "A new generation of Morettis built on love, not blood and war."

"Built on trust," Clare corrected gently, running her fingers through his dark hair. "And a broken fountain pen."
