Chapter 5 - The Siege of Brooklyn

Two days later, the rain returned to New York, turning the streets into glistening ribbons of asphalt.

At the Brooklyn docks, inside a heavily fortified warehouse owned by the Moretti family, Marcus Vale was bound to a chair beneath a harsh overhead light. His high-end suit was torn, his face bruised, and his offshore accounts were being systematically liquidated by Leo’s team.

Damian stood nearby, reviewing the final asset transfer on a tablet.

Suddenly, the warehouse doors were shattered by an explosive blast.

Heavy automatic gunfire echoed through the rain as thirty armed mercenaries working for Dominic Rossi breached the perimeter. Rossi had decided to strike before Damian could clean out Marcus's remaining secrets.

"Target secured! Clear the floor!" a mercenary shouted, throwing flashbang grenades into the central hall.

Damian ducked behind a stack of steel shipping crates, drawing his platinum-engraved SIG Sauer pistol with practiced ease. "Leo! Secure the server drive!"

The firefight was intense, light flashes illuminating the dark warehouse as concrete dust filled the air. Rossi’s men were ruthless, pushing hard toward the central room to rescue Marcus and eliminate Damian once and for all.

Damian moved through the shadows like a wraith, taking down three attackers with precise, lethal shots. But Rossi’s second-in-command, a mountain of a man named Viktor, flanked the position, holding a heavy assault rifle aimed directly at Damian’s back.

"End of the line, Moretti!" Viktor sneered, taking aim.

Suddenly, a heavy forklift idling near the loading bay surged forward with a roar.

Clare—who had refused to stay behind at the penthouse and had followed the security convoy in a private car—steered the heavy steel vehicle directly into Viktor’s flank, crashing into his position and crushing his weapon beneath the massive rubber tires.

Viktor stumbled back in shock, only to be met by Damian, who closed the distance and knocked him unconscious with the heavy butt of his pistol.

Damian rushed to the cab of the forklift, pulling the door open, his eyes wild with anger and terror.

"Clare! What the hell are you doing here?!" Damian roared over the sound of dying gunfire.

Clare stepped down from the cab, her brace-wearing hand tucked safely inside her coat, a small, triumphant smile on her face.

"You left your daily briefing folder in the penthouse, Boss," she said smoothly, holding up an encrypted drive. "And you forgot that I took heavy machinery operation courses during my logistics certification."

Damian stared at her for two seconds before letting out a incredulous, breathless laugh. He pulled her into his arms, kissing her fiercely amidst the smoke and settling dust of the battlefield.

"You are completely insane," he whispered against her lips.

"I learned from the best," she replied.
