Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Horizon

One year later.
The top-floor balcony of the Ricci estate offered an unobstructed view of the Atlantic Ocean, where the setting sun painted the sky in magnificent hues of purple, gold, and burning orange. A cool autumn breeze swept through the gardens below, rustling the colorful leaves of the oak trees.
Arya sat in a wide teak armchair on the terrace, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater and dark trousers. She was sipping a cup of warm herbal tea, her dark eyes reflecting the golden light of the horizon.
Beside her, holding a crystal glass of aged scotch, sat Damiano. He had discarded his suit jacket, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, revealing the edge of a small tattoo over his heart—the initials A.R. encircled by a protective iron wreath.
From the garden below, the sound of happy laughter drifted up into the evening air.
Marco was currently attempting to teach a tiny, fluffy golden retriever puppy how to fetch a tennis ball, while several guards watched from the terrace steps, laughing good-naturedly at the chief of security’s lack of dog-training skills.
Damiano set his glass down on the table, reaching over to take Arya’s hand in his, interlocking his fingers with hers.
"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Damiano asked softly, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand, feeling the cool platinum of her wedding ring.
Arya turned her head to look at him, a warm, radiant smile illuminating her face.
"I was thinking about the Harrington Gala," she confessed quietly. "About how terrified I was when I walked across that ballroom floor."
Damiano smirked softly, a glint of amusement in his striking blue eyes. "You were very brave. And very bold. Grabbed my lapels without even asking my name."
"I was desperate," Arya laughed softly, leaning over to rest her head against his broad shoulder. "I thought you were just a dangerous man who might intimidate Marcus for five minutes."
"And what did I turn out to be?"
Arya raised her head, looking into his eyes with an enduring, profound love that filled every corner of her soul.
"You turned out to be my sanctuary," Arya whispered, reaching up to touch his cheek, feeling the soft roughness of his jaw. "You gave me back my life, Damiano. You showed me what it means to be truly loved, respected, and cherished."
Damiano leaned down, pressing his lips gently to hers, holding her close against his chest as the ocean breeze carried the sweet scent of autumn through the air.
"And you showed me that a house without you is just cold stone," Damiano murmured against her lips, his voice filled with endless warmth. "You are my home, Arya. Today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life."
As the sun sank below the ocean horizon, casting long, peaceful shadows over their domain, Arya wrapped her arms around her husband, looking out at the vast, beautiful world they had built together.
