Chapter 8 - The Rebuilding

Spring arrived in New York six months later, washing away the cold winter grey with brilliant sunshine, blooming cherry blossoms, and blue skies over the Hudson River.

The Long Island estate had been entirely renovated. The battle damage was gone, replaced by expanded gardens, open glass conservatories, and state-of-the-art security systems that operated invisibly beneath the surface of luxury.

Bennett Logistics was thriving under Arya’s leadership. She had cleared out the corrupt management, established ethical labor practices, and expanded the company's international reach, earning the admiration of the entire financial industry. She was no longer known as the grieving daughter of an eccentric founder, nor as the victim of a fallen financier.

She was known as one of the sharpest, most powerful executives in the country.

And at her side, standing as both her business partner and her devotion, was Damiano Ricci.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, the estate’s grand lawn overlooking the ocean was set up for a private celebration. High-society figures, international shipping partners, and senior members of the Ricci family gathered under white silk canopy tents, sipping vintage champagne as a string quartet played softly near the marble fountains.

Arya stood on the stone terrace, wearing a stunning floor-length dress of cream silk that clung to her curves, her dark hair falling in soft curls over her shoulders.

Damiano walked out from the library, wearing a dark blue suit that matched the color of his eyes. He stepped behind her, wrapping his strong arms around her waist, pulling her back against his broad chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder, inhaling the soft scent of jasmine and vanilla from her skin.

"You look breathtaking today, my love," Damiano whispered, kissing the curve of her neck.

Arya smiled, leaning back against him, her hands resting over his on her waist. "It's a wonderful day, Damiano. The new harbor expansion in Brooklyn opened this morning. We processed our first hundred ships without a single delay."

"I heard," Damiano chuckled warmly, his deep voice vibrating against her back. "Marco told me you managed to negotiate a ten-percent reduction in port customs fees with the federal commissioner. You are far more ruthless than I am, Arya."

"I learned from the best," she teased, turning in his arms to face him, resting her hands on his crisp lapels.

Damiano looked down at her, his blue eyes filled with an intense, unwavering devotion that still made her heart skip a beat every single day. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small velvet box.

Arya’s breath hitched. "Damiano?"

Damiano didn't drop to one knee—he was a king who knelt for no one—but he took her hand in his, holding it with an exquisite, tender care as he popped the velvet box open.

Inside rested a magnificent ring—a flawless, rare blue diamond surrounded by a halo of white platinum, carved with delicate oak leaves and thorned roses around the band.

"Eight months ago," Damiano spoke, his voice deep and thick with raw emotion, "you kissed a stranger to survive a night. You walked into my life expecting mercy, and instead, you gave me a reason to feel human again. You rebuilt my house, you brought light into my world, and you conquered every shadow that dared to touch you."

He looked directly into her dark eyes, his hand squeezing hers tightly.

"I do not share what is mine, Arya," Damiano murmured softly. "And my heart belongs entirely to you. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

Tears of pure, overwhelming joy filled Arya’s eyes, spilling down her glowing cheeks. She didn't hesitate. She didn't look back at the past. She stepped forward, throwing her arms around his neck, pressing her lips to his in a passionate, loving kiss.

"Yes," Arya whispered against his mouth, her voice ringing clear and true. "Yes, Damiano! A thousand times, yes!"

Damiano let out a triumphant laugh, slipping the blue diamond onto her finger before lifting her up in his arms, spinning her around on the sunny terrace as the crowd below erupted into cheers and applause.
