Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece

One year later.

A warm, golden autumn afternoon at the Ashford estate.

The grand marble foyer where I had once knelt among broken glass was now filled with fresh white roses, silk ribbons, and soft violin music echoing through the open French doors.

Outside on the sprawling green lawns overlooking the ocean, two hundred guests sat in white chairs, watching the sun dip beneath the horizon in brilliant shades of amber, gold, and crimson.

Standing at the altar beneath a canopy of white orchids was Nathan. He looked devastatingly handsome in a classic black tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the long aisle with an expression of pure, breathless wonder.

The violin music shifted into a magnificent, swelling melody.

The doors opened.

I stepped onto the grass, holding a bouquet of yellow roses—Clara’s favorite flowers.

I wore a breathtaking custom gown of French lace that trailed behind me like a cloud of silver mist. Beside me walked my mother, her face radiant with health, weeping tears of joy as she held my arm.

As I walked down the aisle, I looked out at the guests. There were no fake socialites here today. There were honest shipyard workers, staff from the estate who had become my friends, senior board members who respected my leadership, and loved ones who truly cared for us.

I reached the altar. Nathan took my hand from my mother, his fingers trembling slightly with emotion as he looked into my eyes.

"You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my life, Elena," Nathan whispered, his voice thick with deep, genuine love.

"And you," I smiled, my heart soaring into the clouds, "are late for your weekly audit."

Nathan laughed softly, holding my hand tighter.

The justice of the peace stepped forward, reading the vows of marriage.

"Do you, Nathan Ashford, take Elena Cruz to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, as long as you both shall live?"

"I do," Nathan said without a second of hesitation, his eyes never leaving mine. "With all my heart and all my soul."

"And do you, Elena Cruz, take Nathan Ashford to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, as long as you both shall live?"

"I do," I said, my voice clear, resonant, and overflowing with love.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Nathan pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as he pressed his lips to mine in a long, passionate kiss that made two hundred guests burst into wild, joyful applause.

When he lifted me back up, he kept his arms wrapped around my waist, resting his forehead against mine as the sun set over our beautiful home.

"No more cleaning broken glass, my love," Nathan whispered softly into my ear.

I looked into the eyes of the man I loved, feeling the unbreakable strength of our bond, knowing that every tear, every hardship, and every trial had led me to this perfect, everlasting moment.

"No, Nathan," I smiled, kissing his cheek. "From now on, we build."
