Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

The wedding of Nathan Whitmore and Claire Bennett took place on an autumn afternoon beneath the towering oaks of the Westchester estate.
It was not a cold corporate affair designed for financial media. There were no foreign dignitaries, no press photographers, and no business contracts signed in private rooms. The guest list consisted of family, true friends, estate staff who had become like family, and the children from the Vance-Harrington Cultural Foundation.
Lucas and Owen served as Nathan’s co-best men, wearing sharp charcoal suits matching their father's. They proudly carried the velvet ring box down the aisle of white petals laid across the green lawn.
Claire walked down the aisle on the arm of her brother-in-law, looking breathtaking in an ivory silk gown that caught the golden afternoon sunlight.
As she reached the altar, Nathan took her hands in his. His dark eyes were bright with deep devotion, his smile open and free of the pain that had bound him for so long.
The minister’s voice carried over the quiet, peaceful lawn:
"Do you, Nathan, take Claire to be your wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"
"I do," Nathan said, his voice steady, powerful, and unshakeable.
"And do you, Claire, take Nathan to be your wedded husband?"
"I do," Claire whispered, her gaze locked onto his.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"
Nathan pulled Claire into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply under the falling golden leaves, while the crowd erupted into joyous cheers and applause. Lucas and Owen rushed forward, throwing their arms around their parents' legs, joining in the massive, laughter-filled embrace.
Later that night, after the music had faded and the last guests had departed, Nathan and Claire stood together on the second-floor balcony of the manor, looking out over the quiet, moonlit estate.
The iron gates sat wide open at the bottom of the drive, illuminated by soft amber lights.
Claire rested her head against Nathan’s chest, feeling the steady, strong beat of his heart. Nathan wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close, resting his chin against her dark hair.
Down in the garden, the gentle night wind rustled the leaves of the cherry blossom tree planted on the stone path—a living monument to a collapse that had broken a cold fortress and built a home filled with endless love.
"We made it, Aunt Claire," Nathan whispered playfully into her ear.

Claire smiled, turning in his arms to kiss his jaw, her brown eyes shining under the starlight.
"We made it home, Nathan," she whispered back. "Where we belong."
