Chapter 20 - The Sanctuary Everlasting

Two years later.
The summer sun shone down brilliantly over the sprawling gardens of the Moretti estate. Green lawns stretched out toward the cliff edges, dotted with white gazebo marquees, blooming hydrangeas, and colorful outdoor play areas.
Music filled the air—not dark, melancholic classical tunes, but bright, joyful acoustic melodies played by local musicians.
A massive family gathering was underway. Children from the foundation's community center were running across the grass, playing tag, while volunteers and staff enjoyed a summer barbecue. Richard Cole was sitting on a garden bench, patiently teaching a young boy how to play chess, while Arthur and Marco were casually arguing over grilling techniques near the patio.
Standing near the edge of the stone terrace, holding a small wooden cup, was Gabriel.
He wore a simple crisp white linen shirt with rolled-up sleeves and dark trousers. Gone was the imposing black armor, gone was the distant, cold stoicism of the underworld kingpin. In his eyes was an absolute, serene contentment.
On the lawn a few feet away, Claire was sitting on a soft woolen blanket under the shade of an ancient oak tree. She wore a breezy yellow sundress, her hair falling in loose, dark waves over her shoulders.
In her arms, Claire was gently cradling a tiny, three-month-old baby girl wrapped in a soft white blanket.
The baby had soft dark hair and bright, intelligent dark eyes that looked around at the sunny world with curious wonder.
Gabriel walked slowly across the grass, stepping onto the blanket and sitting down beside his wife. He looked down at his newborn daughter—Elena Rose Moretti—named in honor of rebirth and peace.
Gabriel reached out a large, scarred finger. Baby Elena immediately reached out her tiny hand, her small fingers wrapping tightly around Gabriel’s thumb.
A soft, awe-struck smile broke across Gabriel’s face.
"She has your hands, Claire," Gabriel whispered, his voice trembling slightly with an emotion so profound it surpassed any power he had ever held in the underworld. "Strong. Gentle."
"She has your strength, Gabriel," Claire smiled softly, resting her head against Gabriel’s shoulder as they both watched their daughter sleep peacefully in the warm sunlight. "And she will grow up in a world where she never has to fear the dark."
Down in the bay, a distant ship sounded its horn—a long, warm, harmonious note that echoed across the sparkling water.
It was no longer a signal of impending storms or dark secrets. It was the sound of a city reborn, a legacy fulfilled, and a sanctuary built to last forever.

Gabriel put his arm around Claire, pulling his wife and daughter close to his heart. Under the bright, vast sky of Harbor City, their home was safe, their love was absolute, and their sanctuary was eternal.
