Chapter 9 - THE CROWN OF CHICAGO

The final takedown of the Bellandi syndicate was carried out not with guns, but with the ruthless efficiency of federal law enforcement. Armed with the forensic data Marcus Vance had compiled and the full confession of Silas Vance, the FBI executed over thirty federal arrest warrants across Chicago on Sunday morning.

Antonio Bellandi was arrested at O'Hare Airport as he attempted to board a private jet to Switzerland. Victoria was found in her luxury penthouse, surrounded by packed suitcases and empty wine bottles. She was dragged out in handcuffs, her white cashmere coat stained with tears and cheap makeup as the media cameras flashed around her.

The Moretti empire was officially cleansed of its shadows. The shipping ports were secured, the construction firms were fully legalized, and the family name was completely cleared of any criminal investigations.

One month later, the grand ballroom of the Moretti estate was transformed for a celebration that Chicago high society would talk about for decades. It wasn't a corporate merger or a political gala; it was a real, true wedding celebration.

The room was filled with hundreds of guests—not just politicians and business magnates, but the entire night shift staff from Great Lakes Medical Center, all of them dressed in beautiful gowns and tuxedos, drinking expensive champagne and laughing under the crystal chandeliers.

Hannah stood near the grand staircase, looking down at the crowd. She wore a flawless, ivory silk gown designed by a top European couturier, her chestnut hair styled in soft, elegant waves that exposed a beautiful diamond necklace Roman had given her that morning. But the only jewelry she cared about was the simple, platinum wedding band that sat right next to her nurse's badge, which she had pinned inside her dress for good luck.

"You look magnificent, Mrs. Moretti," a voice said behind her.

She turned to see Roman. He looked stunning in a classic black tuxedo, his face completely healed, his dark eyes shining with a deep, unshakeable happiness. Beside him stood Owen, wearing a tiny matching tuxedo, holding a small silver basket filled with flower petals.

"Are you ready to go down, Mom?" Owen asked, his small hand reaching up to grab Hannah’s fingers.

The word Mom sent a warm, beautiful wave of emotion straight through Hannah’s chest. She leaned down, kissing Owen’s cheek. "I’m ready, sweetheart."

Roman stepped forward, intertwining his fingers with hers, his black onyx ring resting against her platinum band. "The whole city is waiting for the nurse who conquered the Moretti empire," he smiled, his voice filled with an adoration that was absolute.

"I didn't conquer anything, Roman," Hannah whispered, looking up into his eyes as they prepared to walk down the stairs together. "I just protected my patients. And I ended up finding my family."
