Chapter 9 - The Wedding on the Hudson

The morning of our wedding brought clear, crisp blue skies over the Hudson Valley.

The ceremony took place at Adrian’s private estate in Westchester—a historic stone manor surrounded by centuries-old oak trees, rolling green lawns, and sweeping views of the Hudson River.

Inside the bride's suite, Sarah helped me zip up my wedding dress—a breathtaking, off-the-shoulder Italian lace gown with a dramatic ten-foot train.

"You look like a queen, Clara," Sarah whispered, wiping a tear from her eye.

"I feel like myself," I smiled, looking at my reflection in the full-length mirror. "For the first time in my life, I am completely whole."

A soft knock sounded at the door. My mother—who had flown in from Atlanta and had spent the last two months weeping tears of pure happiness—stepped into the room, holding Mia’s hand.

Mia looked like a tiny princess, her hair woven with small white roses, holding a basket of pink petals.

"Are you ready, Mommy?" Mia asked, her eyes shining.

"I'm ready, baby," I whispered, kneeling down to kiss her cheek.

The wedding march began to play from the outdoor garden orchestra.

I walked down the long, flower-covered aisle carpeted with white rose petals. Two hundred of our closest friends, family, and colleagues stood on either side, smiling warmly.

At the end of the aisle stood Adrian.

He took my breath away. He was watching me walk toward him, tears streaming openly down his handsome face, his eyes filled with a love so bright it burned away every shadow of my past.

When I reached him, he took my hands in his. His fingers were warm, steady, and strong.

The officiant spoke words of love, commitment, and destiny, but my ears only heard the sound of Adrian’s deep, steady breathing beside me.

"I, Adrian Kane," he said, his voice rich and clear as he slipped a solid platinum band onto my finger, "take you, Clara Bennett, to be my wedded wife. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."

He then knelt down on the grass, pulling a smaller silver ring from his pocket, looking at Mia, who stood beside us.

"And I, Adrian," he whispered to my daughter, slipping the small band onto her right thumb, "promise to love you, protect you, guide you, and be the father you deserve for every single day of my life."

Mia threw her arms around Adrian’s neck, hugging him tightly. "I love you, Daddy!"

May you like

The officiant smiled warmly, tears in his own eyes. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife... and family. Adrian, you may kiss your bride!"

Adrian stood up, pulled me into his arms, and dipped me low over the bed of white roses, kissing me with a fierce, eternal passion that brought roaring cheers from the entire garden.
