Chapter 8 - The Desperate Strike

As the trial neared its conclusion, the Rossi family empire was completely collapsing. Federal prosecutors had launched a formal investigation into Victor Rossi's offshore tax accounts, freezing the family's assets worldwide. Faced with total ruin and guaranteed conviction for his daughter, Victor Rossi turned to absolute madness.

It was a rainy Thursday evening when Khloe was resting at the private Thorne estate in the Hamptons. Marcus was scheduled to return from a final deposition meeting in Manhattan by 8:00 PM.

Outside the estate, a heavy fog rolled in over the Atlantic coast. The estate’s primary security grid suddenly flickered and shut down as power lines along the private road were cut.

Inside the security monitoring room, Gabe Vance instantly drew his firearm. "Backup generator online! Secure all entry points now!"

Before the guards could respond, a black SUV smashed through the perimeter gate. Four hired mercenaries armed with silenced pistols stormed the property, aiming to create chaos, disable the security detail, and extract Khloe to use her as a hostage to force Marcus into dropping the criminal charges and unfreezing the Rossi assets.

Khloe heard the loud thuds and shatter of glass from the ground floor. Panic surged through her, but she remembered Marcus's words: Stay calm. Trust the plan.

She quickly retreated into the master bedroom's panic room—a reinforced steel enclosure hidden behind a walk-in closet wall—and hit the silent alarm linked directly to the State Police and Marcus's private detail.

Downstairs, Gabe Vance and his security team engaged the intruders with brutal efficiency. Gabe moved like a ghost through the shadowy hallways, neutralizing three of the attackers within minutes.

The leader of the mercenary team forced his way up the stairs, kicking open the master bedroom door. He searched frantically for Khloe, cursing as he realized the closet wall was solid reinforced steel.

Suddenly, the bedroom door opened again.

Marcus Thorne stepped into the room, holding a heavy tactical flashlight and a hand firearm. His suit was drenched from the rain outside, his face dark with lethal fury. He had driven ninety miles an hour down the highway the moment the silent alarm alerted his phone.

"Looking for someone?" Marcus asked, his voice cold as liquid nitrogen.

The mercenary spun around, raising his weapon, but Marcus didn't hesitate. He fired two precise shots into the intruder’s leg and shoulder, dropping him instantly to the hardwood floor. Marcus stepped forward, kicking the man's weapon across the room and pinning his chest beneath his boot.

"Who sent you?" Marcus asked, leaning down.

The mercenary groaned in pain, bleeding onto the rug. "Rossi... Victor Rossi... he paid us five million..."

Gabe Vance rushed into the room, stepping over the fallen man. "State Police are at the gate, Marcus! The estate is clear!"

Marcus dropped to his knees in front of the panic room keypad, typing in the master code. The heavy steel door slid open with a soft hiss.

Khloe was sitting inside, wrapped in a blanket, holding a small framed picture of their son's ultrasound. When she saw Marcus, her composure broke, and she threw her arms around his neck.

"Marcus!" she sobbed.

"It's over, baby. It's over," Marcus whispered tightly, lifting her into his arms and pulling her close. "They will never touch you again. I swear to God, it is completely over."
