Chapter 9 - The Final Verdict

Forty-eight hours after the failed assault on the Thorne estate, the federal authorities raided Victor Rossi’s Manhattan penthouse. Victor was arrested on charges of hiring armed mercenaries, corporate fraud, and obstruction of justice. His assets were permanently seized by the government.

The following Monday, the jury in Isabella Rossi’s trial returned to the courtroom after less than forty-five minutes of deliberation.

The judge ordered Isabella to stand.

"On the first count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, how do you find the defendant?" the judge asked the jury foreman.

"Guilty," the foreman announced firmly.

Isabella’s mother screamed in the gallery. Isabella gasped, clutching her defense attorney's arm as her knees buckled.

"On the second count of Aggravated Battery against a Pregnant Person, how do you find the defendant?"

"Guilty."

"On the third count of Witness Intimidation, how do you find the defendant?"

"Guilty."

The judge looked down at Isabella with unyielding sternness. "Isabella Rossi, for your horrific, calculated actions, and your utter lack of remorse, I sentence you to twenty-two years at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility without the possibility of parole for fifteen years."

The gavel struck the block with a loud, final thud.

Isabella burst into uncontrollable sobbing as court officers handcuffed her and led her away in chains. As she was dragged past the gallery, she looked at Khloe one last time.

Khloe didn't look at her with hatred or triumph. She looked at her with quiet pity. Isabella had traded her freedom, her family's legacy, and her entire life for a moment of unchecked malice.

Outside the courthouse, Marcus and Khloe stood on the front steps, surrounded by reporters. But this time, Marcus didn't make a corporate speech. He simply wrapped his arm around Khloe’s waist, pulled her close, and spoke into the microphones.

" justice has been served," Marcus said calmly. "My family is moving forward."

Together, they walked down the steps into their waiting car, leaving the madness of high society behind.
