Chapter 2 - The Campaign of Sabotage

The next morning, the war escalated from media headlines to personal destruction.
Leah returned to her small apartment in Queens, intending to pack her things, only to find her front door spray-painted with vile slurs. Her landlord stood outside, holding an eviction notice.
"You brought media attention to my building!" the landlord shouted. "The Brooks family’s lawyers called me directly. If I don't kick you out today, they'll sue me into bankruptcy!"
Before Leah could process the shock, two black SUVs pulled up to the curb. Vanessa stepped out, flanked by two imposing security guards and her mother, Eleanor Brooks—a ruthless socialite known as the "Iron Queen" of New York real estate.
"Look at you," Eleanor sneered, looking at Leah’s modest apartment. "Did you really think protecting an old woman would make you part of high society? You're a maid, girl. A disposable nobody."
"Your daughter tried to assault an elderly woman in a wheelchair," Leah said, standing tall despite her shaking knees. "No amount of money will change what she did."
Vanessa stepped forward, her face contorted with rage. "You ruined my engagement to Lord Harrington! My endorsements are canceled! My life is over because of you!"
"You ruined yourself, Vanessa," a deep, commanding voice echoed down the street.
Nathan stepped out of a sleek Maybach, surrounded by four Sinclair security officers. He walked over and stood directly in front of Leah, his tall frame completely shielding her from the Brooks family.
"Eleanor," Nathan said coldly, "intimidating a witness in a pending assault investigation is a federal crime."

"This is a private matter, Nathan!" Eleanor snapped. "Your mother embarrassed my daughter!"
"Your daughter embarrassed herself," Nathan replied smoothly. "And as of ten minutes ago, the Sinclair Group has acquired thirty-four percent of your real estate firm's debt. If you or your daughter come within fifty feet of Leah again, I will foreclose on your entire empire by sunset."
