Chapter 9 - HEALING THE BROKEN

Autumn arrived in full, golden beauty across the quiet suburban neighborhood where the Cole family lived.
The dark memories of that rainy night had been washed away by weeks of laughter, busy baby feedings, and new family routines. The broken glass in the kitchen had been replaced, and the old reading room was now a bright, sunny nursery filled with painted murals of forest animals.
On the living room mantle, a new large wooden frame held three distinct photographs.
On the left was Sarah, smiling at the beach.
In the middle was Ethan, Mark, Rachel, and baby Clara on the day they came home from the hospital.
And on the right was a new memory book Ethan and Rachel had created together—filled with pictures of Sarah, stories from her college days, and notes about how much she had loved her son.
Ethan sat at the kitchen island, finishing his math homework. The house smelled faintly of warm blueberry muffins baking in the oven.
Rachel walked into the kitchen, carrying baby Clara in a cozy front sling. She set a plate with a freshly baked muffin beside Ethan’s notebook.
Ethan looked up from his homework and smiled.
“Thanks, Rachel,” he said.
Rachel paused, her eyes sparkling with warmth. “You’re welcome, sweetie.”

Ethan looked at the sticky note stuck to the side of his lunchbox sitting on the counter. It read: Good luck on your science project today! You are going to do great.
This time, Ethan picked up the note, folded it neatly, and slipped it safely inside his pencil case.
