Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The next morning at 9:00 AM, Daniel walked into the glass-walled boardroom of Apex Logistics. He was dressed in his sharpest suit, trying desperately to project an air of authority, though the dark circles under his eyes betrayed his panic.

He had convinced himself that the board meeting was just a routine corporate review. He believed that even if I controlled the house, his career was his own.

The board members were already seated around the mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Arthur Vance, along with the corporate secretary.

"What is the meaning of this emergency meeting?" Daniel demanded, taking a seat at the far end. "I am the COO of this company. I have a firm to run."

"You were the COO, Daniel," Arthur stated calmly.

The double doors opened, and the room fell silent.

I walked in. I wore a tailored ivory power suit, my hair swept back in an elegant, commanding style. Gone was the soft, silent woman who quietly endured Margaret’s insults over dinner. Standing before them was Catherine Sterling, sole heiress to the Sterling Global fortune.

Daniel’s jaw dropped. "Catherine? What are you doing here? This is a corporate meeting!"

"I know," I said smoothly, taking the center seat at the head of the table—the Chairwoman’s seat. "Which is why I am here. As the majority shareholder controlling 65% of Apex Logistics, I am calling a vote."

"Shareholder?" Daniel gasped, looking around the room at the other board members, who remained completely stone-faced. "No... no, this is impossible. You're a housewife!"

"I allowed you to act as COO because I believed in your potential, Daniel," I said, leaning forward and resting my hands on the polished wood. "However, recent audits reveal that over the last eighteen months, you have diverted corporate funds to pay for your family's personal expenses, including your sister's luxury trips and your mother's personal country club memberships."

"That was... those were business expenses!" Daniel stammered, his face flushing crimson.

"Misappropriation of corporate assets," Arthur Vance added, sliding a thick ledger across the table. "A clear breach of fiduciary duty."

"I move to terminate Daniel Hawthorne from his position as COO effective immediately," I said, looking directly into my husband's terrified eyes. "All in favor?"

Every single board member raised their hand.

" motion passed," Arthur declared. "Mr. Hawthorne, security will escort you to your desk to collect your personal belongings. You have fifteen minutes."
