Chapter 5 - Margaret’s Desperate Play

Stripped of his job, his luxury car, and his home, Daniel was forced to move into a modest two-bedroom rental apartment with his mother, brother, and sister. The high-society life they had taken for granted vanished overnight.
Margaret, however, refused to go down without a fight. Unable to accept that her former "obedient" daughter-in-law had humbled her family, she decided to launch a vicious smear campaign.
She called high-society journalists, tabloid reporters, and local bloggers, painting a narrative of a heartless, scheming woman who had abandoned her devoted husband, stolen his assets, and kidnapped his young son.
Three days after the boardroom meeting, Arthur called me into his office.
"She’s holding a press conference outside the family court," Arthur said, showing me a live stream on his tablet.
On screen, Margaret stood surrounded by microphones, wearing a black dress and wiping away fake tears.
"She used my son!" Margaret sobbed into the cameras. "She manipulated him, took advantage of his trust, and now she is keeping my precious grandson away from us! She is unstable, cold, and unfit to be a mother! We are filing for emergency full custody of Noah!"
I watched the screen without a single twitch of fear.
"Is the countersuit ready?" I asked Arthur.
"Ready and waiting," Arthur replied. "We have the audio recordings from the estate terrace night, the financial forensic reports, and the records of Noah's medical care proving you have been his sole primary caregiver."
"Good," I said, standing up. "Let her dig her own grave in public. When the drop comes, the fall will be absolute."
That afternoon, my legal team issued a single statement to the press, accompanied by an unedited audio recording captured by the estate’s security system on the night of the incident.

The clear, high-definition audio played across national news networks: Margaret berating my parenting... Daniel grabbing my wrist... his ultimatum: 'Either apologize to my mother, or pack your things and get out of my life'... and my quiet, dignified response: 'Fine. I'll go.'
The public narrative turned in an instant. The "victim" mother-in-law and betrayed husband were exposed as abusive, gold-digging opportunists.
