Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Hope

On a bright, clear morning, I walked with Maya on the beach. She was running toward the water, her laughter ringing out against the sound of the crashing waves.
I felt a presence beside me. It was Sarah, who had become a dear friend throughout the chaos of the last few years.
"You look happy, Clara," she said.
"I am," I said, genuinely.
The Vances were a memory—a cautionary tale that the world was beginning to forget, and that I had long since transcended. I didn't need their billions, their status, or their approval. I had my daughter, my autonomy, and a future that was entirely my own design.
I looked at my hand. The ring I had once worn—the symbol of my entrapment—was long gone, replaced by a simple gold band I had bought myself, a reminder that I belonged only to myself.
"What now?" Sarah asked.
I watched Maya splash in the surf, her silhouette a beautiful, unblemished shape against the vast blue of the sea.
