Chapter 11 - Shadows of the Past

The golden light of the Westchester estate was soon overshadowed by a dark cloud from Richard’s past. A few weeks after that peaceful afternoon, news broke that Sterling Vance, Richard’s former ruthless business partner who had been imprisoned five years ago, had been released early on parole.

Vance was a man driven by vengeance. He blamed Richard for the collapse of his empire and his imprisonment. While Richard had moved on to a life defined by family, philanthropy, and genuine warmth, Vance spent every day behind bars plotting the total destruction of the Coleman family.

"He won't come after you directly with a gun, Richard," Henry warned during a late-night meeting in the study, his eyes sharp with concern. "Vance plays with legal loopholes, public smear campaigns, and psychological warfare."

Richard looked out the window toward the quiet gardens where his children slept soundly. "I spent decades building walls of wealth to protect myself, Henry. But now, my vulnerability isn't money. It's them."

The very next morning, the first blow struck. The local media released a doctored investigation accusing Leo’s community shelter foundation of money laundering and regulatory fraud.
