The rainy autumn afternoon seemed normal until Isabelle realized Ethan’s laughter hadn't echoed through the hallway for over twenty minutes.
A frantic search of the estate revealed the terrible truth: a side gate had been forced open, and Ethan’s wooden toy airplane lay abandoned in the muddy grass near the perimeter fence.
Minutes later, Richard’s phone rang. A cold, synthesized voice spoke from the receiver.
