Chapter 10 - Sunlight Beyond the Gate

Three years later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the gardens of the Vale Ranch. Banners hung from the timber beams of the barn, fluttering gently in the warm mountain breeze. The scent of roasted food, fresh flowers, and pine filled the air.
Dozens of guests were gathered on the lawn—former veterans, survivors supported by Audrey's foundation, local friends, and doctors who had helped in her recovery.
Audrey stood in the center of the garden, wearing an elegant cream-colored dress, her hair adorned with fresh wildflowers. She was standing beside a young, kind-hearted doctor named Ethan, whom she had met through her foundation's medical relief work. They were exchanging vows under a wooden archway that Elias had built with his own hands.
Elias stood beside them, dressed in a sharp suit, a soft smile resting on his weathered face.
As the ceremony concluded and the crowd burst into applause, Audrey turned to Elias and threw her arms around his neck.
"I love you, Dad," she whispered in his ear, her voice strong, happy, and radiant. "Thank you for bringing me back to life."
"I would cross through hell a thousand times for you, my sweet girl," Elias replied, holding her close, feeling the warmth of her heart beating strong and free.
As evening fell, the music played, and people danced under strings of golden fairy lights. Elias walked away from the crowd for a brief moment, standing at the edge of the porch, looking out at the peaceful lake reflecting the starlit sky.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, worn photograph—a picture of Audrey when she was five years old, sitting on his shoulders, laughing without a care in the world.
He smiled, putting the photograph back over his heart.
